A one-person workshop. Apps that do one thing, well, and stay quiet the rest of the time.
Eyland is an independent one-person workshop that designs and builds software for iPhone, Mac and the web. Three apps have come out of it: Cléo, for learning to read sheet music, KeyFall, a piano game played on a MIDI keyboard, and Mixbar, a per-app volume mixer for Mac. The workshop also takes on client work.
Learning to read sheet music, one note at a time. Nine chapters of two-minute lessons, with no instrument and no gear.
iPhone · Sight-reading cleo.eyland.appNotes fall in color onto your MIDI keyboard, with score and combo. A game that drills your fingers without looking like practice.
Mac · MIDI keyfall.eyland.appEvery app's volume from the Mac menu bar. Named buses, an equalizer per bus, keyboard shortcuts. No driver.
Mac · Audio mixbar.eyland.appSoftware does not have to be big to be serious. It has to have had someone take care of every detail.
No brief to translate, no spec that gets lost on the way. What is decided in the morning gets tested in the afternoon, and what does not work is thrown out the same evening.
Whatever goes into a product has to earn its place against what is already there. It takes longer to settle, and it is what gives you a tool you understand in ten seconds.
What can be handled on the device is handled there, and what has to leave does so for a reason someone can name. It holds up in front of a user as well as in front of a lawyer.

Each app has its own privacy policy, available from its website and its App Store listing. This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics.
